Amid the snow-covered pine forest in Hedmark gleams in red between the trees. Once, the two railway wagons left on a siding at Rørosbanen, with an imminent threat of being melted into the nail.

Today they have found new life as the home and pottery workshop of Kari Marie Sund (37). It is also home Frode Gjedrem (50) and mix dog Herman (2).

- There's been much better than I had expected, says Kari Marie Sund who has kept house here since 2010.

GOOD BUY: Frode Gjedrem and Kari Marie Sund satisfied with the accommodation she bought for 6,000 million four years ago.

From the kitchen and living room windows here in Hanestad between Koppang and Alvdal, she looks straight down on Glomma.

The warning "LAENEN them ud» windowsill is with no smoking sign a constant reminder of wagons story. After it was electricity and running water, they have however made its last journey.

But the remains of what used another feature found everywhere in the cart, which is transformed into a living room and kitchen. Cabinet doors that originally stood in the hallway, is converted into cabinet doors in the kitchen, while the pegs makes the utility that handles on drawers and cupboards.

The former dustbins are new cabinet doors under the sink. Hat racks are located in the hallway where they now keep track of shoes.

Also the rest of the furniture is largely reuse. The kitchen was purchased used at Kowloon and is painted rust red. An old sideboard has become a bench with cushions, where you can sit and gaze at the river.

AUTHENTIC: Kari Marie Strait has preserved the old sliding doors of the train cars. One of the biggest challenges the decor has been to find furniture and objects that are narrow enough to get into the doors.

- It was just sawing off legs. It's been pot and bowl cabinets, explains Kari.

The large metal casket from a reuse store, she put wheels on. Up on the liquor cabinet. Kari has a part-time job-license, and when there is news in store happens that some bottles are home.

On the floor of the living room is a cowhide from Ikea, but the cowhide under the coffee table is the more exclusive battle. It is milk the cow Amira. Kari's parents are in fact organic dairy.

- I'd really gotten it to the 30th anniversary, but I think I rather got it when I was 34 She was 14 years old. In the usual high production dairy cows are often no more than three years, she said.

Had to check with togmuseum
The story of the train cars starts with Kari took the train to Røros potter apprentice. On a side track, she sees the abandoned train cars, and begins to fantasize about removing everything inside and turn them into housing.

HEAT: The retaining arch roof, but have isolated both walls and floors. Contra bass was sold to buy the new stove, providing good heat in the otherwise cool stroller.

One day she decides to take action and get after 'hundred phones' contact with someone who can help her.

- Is it possible to buy the cars? Ask Kari.

- It's funny that you call today, I'm going to a meeting about the cars tonight. We have considered the melting them into the nail, the answer she gets.

It turns out that the carts are Danish, and it must be verified togmuseet in Odense if they need them before Kari could buy. In Odense, they have already seen these wagons, and thus living the adventure begin.

Using a local contractor equipped with special vehicles, she gets help to move the 37-ton wagons across the Glomma, and placed them on specially built tracks. The cars cost 6,000 dollars per piece, and the whole project has now cost 800,000 crowns.

Sold bass for oven
Arch ceiling she would keep as it was. The biggest challenge was to isolate the wagons, for there was no insulation before.

RIGHT PLACE: Kari Marie Sund never thought it would be so good to stay in train cars, she has lived in since 2010.

- The walls are insulated with cardboard base, and the floor with Glava, says Kari.

All of the cars had to be customized. Thus, it is not always easy to fix something if stuff breaks. Today it is a package that has been damaged so that the water supply is stopped up.

Frode Gjedrem have to go to the nearest store an hour away to buy new.

Another dilemma is cold. Several of the windows are punctured and none of them are isolated. Initially, Kari had used an old fireplace that engulfed by, but never made it real hot.

The solution was to sell the bass that had lain in the attic with his parents for several years, and buy a new stove. The woodsman Frode's house are thankfully no shortage of firewood.

- We are both interested in alternative ways to stay on. We will take advantage of natural resources, and no saturated with hazardous substances, explains Kari Marie Sund.

Great Grandmother: Portrait of grandmother has been placed on the wall, just above an oil lamp Kari made. In the second carriage to her pottery workshop with its outlets.

They are considering to build a straw bale, but for the time being is life in train cars perfectly.

The next project is to set up a greenhouse and grow their own vegetables. Kari also has a plan to get a toilet in the train on the empty enclosure marked "WC". Currently, toilet, shower and laundry facilities located in the small house that was built while the train cars fell into place.

Consider this first!
Kari Marie Sund advice before considering staying in a train car:

To reorder a train car at home is not as easy as it looks like, either mentally or physically.

Remember that the things you should have in must be narrow enough.

Old wagons are not isolated at all, they were only heated by the engine.
