Somedays, when I feel like I live far far away from everything(Although Im not sure what that everything is supposed to be!)I go for a walk.10 mins drive up the road is this wonderful place.Im sure it must be in the lonely planet,I don't hear many local accents!
I found how to get down to river bed between crumbling remains of the ore plant. All rusty pipes and rotting concrete. The ngahere reclaiming back the land.
Breathe the air
This is the start of the Windows walk, following the old tramway into the hill. You start walking thru the tunnels that carried the ore out of the mine, along the top tramway.absorbed into darkness.
Troll ville!
Walking along you get little windows of light, over flowing with ferns.
More colour,colour mmmmmmm
Every so often there are little side tunnels, letting in light and giving amazing views of the gorge as you climb higher and higher.
Look to the right
Look to the left, follow that straight old line..........
Amazing, this green slimey stuff is such a wonderful colour, iridescent!
Found some nice crystals, had a swim, actually a wallow. The water was freezing and shallow.
This walk is a loop.Up one side of the gorge and down the other.
Swing bridge no 3!
Looking down gorge
Up,looking up.There are more tunnels and an underground pump house. The pump house is in an enormous erie cavern.
More tunnels
Stunning red lichen covered rock faces.
These tiny little paths have been scooped out of the cliff face.Horses were used to transport the quartz back down the valley to the stamping battery.
Path is tiny,2 feet wide!
Yellow lichen
Red lichen!
Somewhere down that crazy river.
The beauty of this place, leaves me smiling as I drive home.I love where
I live.
